Super U Podcast | Behind the Scenes of Hit TV (and a Viral Game You Can’t Put Down) with Doug Weitzbuch
Ever wonder what really happens behind your favorite TV shows?
Doug Weitzbuch has been in the room for it all—producing everything from Hell’s Kitchen to Duck Dynasty—and in this episode, he shares the wild, unfiltered reality of the entertainment industry. From getting chewed out by Gordon Ramsay to helping shape a cultural phenomenon, Doug takes us inside the chaos, creativity, and constant hustle of unscripted television.
We also dive into his latest venture, Housle—a viral daily game that turns real estate into a surprisingly addictive challenge, and how he brought it to life outside of Hollywood.
Along the way, we explore:
- Why some shows explode while others flop
- The pressure (and freedom) of freelance creative work
- What it’s like producing 1,200 contestants for a single show
- And how to stay grounded while chasing big opportunities
This episode is equal parts entertaining and eye-opening.

Episode Preview:
“And so I left my family in LA, went to Monroe, Louisiana, which is a very small town. And I got to meet the Robertsons. And I tell this story, I showed up, and Phil Robertson, who was like the mate, the patriarch of the family, the grandfather, he looked at me, it was very insulting.
And he goes, I was like, Hey, nice to meet you, Phil. He goes, you won’t last long and walks away from me. And I was like, excuse me? No one’s ever been that rude, disrespectful.
But look, I can put myself in his shoes. Right. And where he was coming from, there was a lot of turnover. There were a lot of producers coming and going. He’d been filming for three or four months at this point when he was told it was going to be like a month. So he was salty. Fair enough. We worked. You know, he ended up being totally nice to me later.
I was in his home many times telling me stories about how he took out 5000 ducks one season, like a real duck hunter. But that family was, you know, one of a kind. I was lightning in a bottle.”
