Super U Podcast | Legacy, Not Replacement: The Human Side of AI with Miles Spencer

What if you could sit down and have a conversation with a loved one who’s no longer here?

In this powerful episode of Super U, Erik sits down with entrepreneur and Reflekta.AI founder Miles Spencer to explore how technology is reshaping the way we preserve—and interact with—human legacy. From turning old photos, voice clips, and family stories into dynamic digital experiences, to navigating the emotional weight of reconnecting with the past, Myles shares how AI can deepen human connection rather than replace it.

They also dive into the realities of building a startup at lightning speed, lessons learned from multiple exits (and dozens of failures), and why being “ready enough” is often all you need to take the leap.

This conversation blends cutting-edge innovation with timeless themes of storytelling, family, and purpose—leaving you thinking differently about both the future of AI and the legacy you’re creating today.

In this episode, you’ll learn:

  • How AI can preserve family stories and bring memories to life
  • Why emotional readiness matters just as much as technical capability
  • The entrepreneurial mindset behind launching and scaling quickly
  • Practical storytelling tips to make your message unforgettable

Tune in for a thought-provoking episode that challenges what it means to live on—and how technology can help us do it more meaningfully.

Episode Preview:

Well, we just got back from Thanksgiving, right? And we all have those boxes sitting up in the attic—photos, love letters, journals—everything gathering dust. There’s usually one person keeping all of it. We call them “the keeper.” And eventually, it has to be passed on to the next person, and then the next. But sooner or later, those stories fade away.

There’s an African saying: when a person dies, an entire library of stories burns. And that’s literally what happens every time someone passes away.

So, we found a way to preserve that. We can take all of that media, synthesize it into the cloud, and run it through our AI biographer to create a timeline. From there, in about 20 minutes and just a few simple files, you can create a recognizable image and likeness of a loved one—something you can bring to your dining room table. For example, my father said the Thanksgiving grace this past weekend. And my mom shared her elderberry pie recipe because my sister had forgotten it—she talked her through it.

The thing is… both of them passed away decades ago. Amazing, right? So how does it work? Do you have your laptop at the table so you can see your dad, or is it just audio?

We actually used an iPad. There’s a beautiful watercolor image of my father—it reflects his likeness, but it’s not him in the flesh. He’s not there to give us hugs. But it is his voice. It’s his stories. And, at the moment, that watercolor representation of him. We’re ready for video, but the market isn’t. It can feel overwhelming for people. Technically, my dad could join a Zoom call on video—but that’s a lot for most people to process.

The emotional weight of going through something like this—I’ve experienced it myself—is quite significant.”
