The Comeback’s Always Greater than the Setback (from the Unlocking Moves Podcast)

Today we’re reposting an episode of the Unlocking Moves Podcast where Erik sat down with host Kurt Wilkin to discuss Erik’s journey to becoming the bestselling author and sought-after motivational speaker that he is today. Erik tells the stories behind his famous green glasses, how he came up with the name Equalman, what led to Erik giving the commencement speech at Michigan State University this year, and he breaks down the term flawsome.

The Unlocking Moves show dives into the pivotal moments in an entrepreneur’s journey that unlocked their true potential. Many business leaders only like to talk about their success stories – but Kurt Wilkin is a firm believer that we learn more from the stumbles and mistakes.

5x #1 Bestselling Author and Motivational Speaker Erik Qualman has performed in over 55 countries and reached over 50 million people this past decade. He was voted the 2nd Most Likable Author in the World behind the Harry Potter series.

The Comeback’s Always Greater than the Setback (from the Unlocking Moves Podcast)

Episode Preview:

“Yeah, so “being Flawsome” is all about people that love you, because they’re perfect. They love you, because you’re perfectly flawed. So it’s really about going out there and doing your best and you’re gonna fail and you’re gonna have mistakes. The key is being floss and what it means as an individual and also as a business is that oops, I made a mistake, or I failed.

Second, here’s where I’m due to fix it, that most importantly, actually follow through and fix it. So that’s great for an individual life, but it’s also very good in business. The research that we’ve seen is that if you do that if you take care of someone’s issue, that customer is three times more likely to repeat as a customer then some of them never had an issue in the first place. So it’s really about having that empathy and that desire, but that’s what it’s all about Flawsome. People don’t love you because you’re perfect, they love you because you’re perfectly flawed. And then being courageous, that just means stepping into your story, that it takes courage to step into your true self to step in your story of what we’re talking about before, very uncomfortable at first, but it’s the most comfortable place that you can live. And it’s, it’s the greatest story ever told, it’s your story.

And then last but not least, it’s all about what we always say at our company, have fun, and be kind. That’s it, have fun, be kind. So step into that kindness, kindness wins, and be kind. It’s hard to do. But you’ll stand above the rest when you’re kind as much as possible. Again, philosophy, you’re gonna have days when things aren’t going well, you’re gonna slip. But it’s really about that long term, that slope going up. It’s a roller coaster ride, but it’s really that slope that continues to go up.”
