Super U Podcast | Why No One Knows About You (Yet) — And How to Fix It | KJ Blattenbauer

What if the only thing standing between you and major media coverage… is how you tell your story?

In this episode, we’re joined by KJ Blattenbauer, founder and CEO of Hearsay PR, a powerhouse publicist who helps overlooked experts become headline makers. With nearly 30 years of experience and clients featured in outlets like Forbes, Architectural Digest, Fast Company, and The Today Show, KJ knows exactly what it takes to break through a crowded media landscape.

She shares the real strategies behind getting noticed—whether you’re an entrepreneur, author, founder, or creative—and why most people never get the visibility they deserve.

We dive into:

  • The simple framework to clarify your message and stand out instantly
  • Why most pitches fail (and how to fix yours in 5–7 sentences)
  • The follow-up strategy that dramatically increases your success rate
  • How to use AI the right way in PR (and where it falls short)
  • The truth about “pay-to-play” media—and whether it’s worth it
  • Why you should start PR before you feel ready

KJ also breaks down how to think like the media, craft irresistible subject lines, and position yourself as the go-to expert in your space.

If you’ve ever felt like you have something valuable to share, but aren’t getting the attention to match—this episode will give you the clarity and confidence to change that.

Episode Preview:

“Say who you are, what you do, why it matters to their audience, and why they should cover you right now. It has to be timely. It has to be tied to something happening in the moment to be truly newsworthy. Just having a new business isn’t enough.

You need to connect your story to what’s going on in the world. For example, are you addressing the growing leadership crisis? Are you helping people navigate uncertainty? If the world feels like it’s on fire and people can’t focus, how are you helping them gain clarity? That’s a strong pitch right now.

I think a lot of people miss this. They don’t approach it with that lens. They don’t understand what makes them newsworthy in this moment. And then they make their pitches way too long. It’s like that meme—too long, didn’t read… happy for you, or sorry that happened. So give people the TL;DR.

My pitches are no longer than five to seven sentences, no matter the client or topic. The goal is to spark interest, offer a few angles, and get the reporter to reach out. At the end of the day, it comes down to brevity, clarity, and relevance. Tie your message to what’s happening right now—and why it matters to that specific audience—and you’ll dramatically increase your chances of getting covered.”
