“As I grew up and became a professional, working professional, and an adult, I realized the impact that these things can have on you, because I had — I used to be an avid motorcyclist, and I would take solo trips across long distances, you know, 500–600 miles, solo trips. I don’t even know why I did that, but it was meditative for me to do it alone. And on one of those trips, I had just gotten my bike serviced, got everything fixed and renewed and replaced, and I’m stuck in the middle of a forest at 3 a.m. with absolutely nothing around me except howling wolves — I can hear them — and with a busted battery and a busted clutch wire, so I had to push my bike for about three, four miles until I found a service center. And that guy happened to be open at 5 a.m. He said, “All of these are fake. You got fake replacement parts.”
So it could have been a life-and-death thing, to be honest. And I think that really changed my perspective on fakes on a personal level. But when it comes to Entropy and how we built out the system, so it was a couple of years in the wilderness just trying to figure out where do we solve this problem? We’re saying it’s an ocean with three, four trillion dollars — who exactly has this problem? What is the nature of it? Who loses from it? Who needs to be protected from it? So Entropy’s mission from then on was always protecting people, whether businesses or consumers, from dealing with or being impacted by counterfeit. So that’s how we started.
