Super U Podcast | 7 Super Tips with Halle Bailey

Tip #1:

“Yes, well, the beautiful thing about this is I feel like Ariel has taught me so much about myself as Hallie. And you know, I think that the years that I’ve been doing this film are very transformative years. As a young woman, you’re still finding yourself I’m still finding who I am every single day really. And you know, these values these characteristics of Eric these traits of her that are strong, passionate, such drive that she has her not being afraid. I really feel like I truly tried to adopt some of those values as highly and I feel like when we wrapped I truly felt like those stuck with me and I was a different way different person than I was when I started filming. First day, so she’s truly taught me a lot about who I am and what I can be. If only I just go try to I try and work really hard.”

Tip #2:

“Yes, wow. Well, I truly feel like I learned so much from Melissa McCarthy just by watching her on this film. It was interesting because the first two months I was filming live by myself on blue screen with puppeteers who would come in and out and I would be talking to the air and I would just hear my beautiful co stars in my ear. So I was alone. And then Jonah came along and which was amazing to have another person on set to actually work with instead of just puppeteers and then Melissa came shortly after in the third month, but I was just so like struck by her power and her strength and her eagerness. Honestly, honestly, and I remember watching her just command the set, and walk in and know what she want. And she’s so kind. She’s such a genuine person. But she also knows her words, and she knows how to speak up. She’s like, No, I want this. This is great. This is not I need this, like watching her communicate her needs was like, wow, you can do that. And I tell her this every day when I saw her performance in it, I was struck and then hearing her song as Ursula. I mean, I’ve been a fan of her for a very long time. But watching her be just everything a woman can be all the layers to us are so beautiful, you can be genuine and kind, but also strong and stand in your power. I just was so just struck by her.”

Tip #3:

“It truly means the world to me to be in this position. I am just I don’t even know, it’s just overwhelmingly big. I’m just so grateful. And you know, people ask me and I’m like, I’m still wrapping my head around, practice this. But to be able to see the reactions of these babies and see that it’s impacting this generation makes me cry and feel like I’m in the right place. God has done this for a reason. I am just grateful to be here. And that’s all I can really say about it. Because it’s so massive to me in my head. But regardless of that, I’m just grateful to be in this position.”

Tip #4:

“I just want to tell all of you to never give up to go after your dreams. You all are so talented, you’re so beautiful, you have it in you to do whatever you want and whatever you want to do in life you can go after and get. So don’t let anybody stop you. You just keep going and you keep your head up and believe in yourself. That’s what I would say.”

Tip #5:

“It was truly a transition for me because I have never done anything like this before. I’m used to singing and performing and being on tour and on stage is my comfort zone. I’m like okay, I can do this. I’m like, I’m just gonna ride this wave do this on my life. This came along and I’m like, Whoa, okay, do I have it in me? Can I do this? My sister helps me through everything in my life out of the two of us and the baby sister. So parting away from her when I had to go film this movie was like, Oh my gosh, this is so new. I’ve never done this. I miss my right arm. And you know, she was there for me every step of the way. We FaceTime every single day. And you know, she’s been one of my big champions to be like, girl, you can do it. You can get your wings and fly guys with anything when you enter kind of a new field that you’ve never been in before. People are kind of looking at you like Okay, let’s see what she got, you know, because I’ve never done this so for all I know, I could have been terrible.”

Tip #6:

“We’re all human. And sometimes when you see any sort of like negativity directed towards you, it’s gonna hurt your feelings regardless. But I think that I just focus on the positive. And the beautiful reactions that I see are those little boys and girls. And you know, I was talking to my grandparents a lot. And you know how monumental this is, for them who’ve been through times where my you know, my Nana, she had to drink from a different water fountain, she remembers seeing her mother in like the cotton field. It’s very different now. But it’s monumental for us during this time, and I’m just so grateful. And honestly, I’m like, I’m like my experiences and way better than my grandparents. So I’m just grateful.”
