Biz Hacking Firm Cellebrite Under Attack

Cellebrite, the Israeli firm that markets hacking tools, has been hacked. The cyber-attack as confirmed by the firm does not affect its clients. Sounds a bit unsettling since Cellebrite also confirmed that customer information had been “taken out” as part of the incident. The firm is notifying those affected by the attack and asking customers to change their password. If you are a Cellebrite user, change your password now. (Source: BBC News)

Is Pandora’s future on the brink?

Pandora is cutting 7 percent of its workforce this year in search of operational efficiency. The company’s performance in 2016 was heavily affected by other streaming companies gaining popularity, such as Spotify. The latest financial figures posted by Pandora show 4.3 million paid subscribers and letter to shareholders explains how the CEO plans to keep the company afloat. Among other things, he believes having a free seven-day trial is a good way to gain subscribers. (Source: Engadget)

Real-life Monopoly

Is Apple’s practice of allowing iPhones to run apps from its App Store  only anti-competitive? A case filed in 2012 is now re-opened and the  ruling says that buyers of iPhone apps may sue Apple on the basis that they are monopolizing the app market by not allowing users to buy apps outside its App Store. There are currently two solutions: 1. allow iPhone users to purchase apps from other markets or 2. repay users damages incurred for having higher competitive prices. iPhone app buyers pass go and collect $200.
