An Awakened Life with Deepak Chopra

Tip #1

“What is this? You’d say it’s a cup, right? Well, if you were a baby, you wouldn’t know this cup. This is a shape. This is a color. This is a form, this is a sensation. This is a dress, and it’s noise. The rest is a story. It’s a human story we created just like we created money, Wall Street or nation states, or colonial empires, we take that for reality. So when you have time to still question your habitual certainties, you will realize that actually, we know nothing. Nothing. Everything we know is made up. It’s a human construct. And once we are embedded in that human concept, we call it reality. We don’t question what is the source of this experience. So taking retreats, practicing mindful awareness of the body of mind, of mental space of the web of relationship, the mystery of existence, it takes you slowly deeper to your true self, which is the orchestrator of everyday experience.”

Tip #2

“Basically, everything falls into place by itself. It’s also called the state of choiceless awareness. Now, I don’t want to confuse everyone. But the highest level is where everything happens by itself, which is happening right now in your body, everything is happening by itself, right? You’re not forcibly regulating your heart rate, or digesting your food, making the right antibodies to the pneumococcus that your grandfather had, etc. It’s all happening by itself without you making the choice, but you know, we can by having certain choices, we can accelerate that process till we come to the stage where we don’t need to make choices. Okay, that’s synchronistic infinite creativity, infinite possibilities.”

Tip #3

“So the first is self-reflection. You first go into meditation, and silence the mind. And then you ask yourself, Who am I? And you don’t need to know the answer, you just wait for any sensation, image, feeling, or thought to come to you. So again, in every spiritual tradition, they say, ask and you shall receive. So who do you ask you ask yourself. And as I said, your inner deeper self is connected to the source of the universe. So you ask, and then you let go, and then you invite any sensations, images, feelings, or thoughts to come to you. If you do this regularly, you will have what spiritual traditions call Revelation. Revelation is revealed truth, it’s not truth, as in the scientific method, but it’s truth, as revealed to you by the divine spark within you.”

Tip #4

“This is a tough one. But it’s achievable. It goes into the silence between your thoughts. Okay, between every thought, there’s a little space, and that’s where there is no thought. So right now, as you’re listening to me, just turn your attention to who’s listening. So as you’re listening to me, be aware of the listener. That still presence that you feel that’s pure awareness. It’s not your mind, which might be saying, I wish I’d gone to the bathroom before I came here. Or why didn’t my girlfriend return my call or whatever, that’s the mind. But between the spaces, the spaces between thoughts are just pure awareness. That’s the place of infinite creativity, anything, it’s a field of all possibilities, creativity, and intention, it’s also a place of ambiguity and uncertainty. Because without ambiguity and uncertainty, there is no creativity. So the space between our thoughts is a field of possibilities. It’s a field of creativity is the place where our intentions come from. And it’s also a place of uncertainty, you embrace uncertainty. That’s the place where you want to be.”

Tip #5

“Flow is when the observer and the observed when the sphere and the scenery when the driver and the automobile, the driving, when the lover and the beloved, become one. And then there is a loss of personal identity. There is a slowing of time, you know, great athletes like you’re the Formula One driver or a great football player or any great athlete. They don’t think they’re playing, they’re being played out. The game is playing them instead of them playing the game. So time slows down. There is no personal identity, there’s no ego identity. It’s a religious experience, actually, when you end the mystery, whatever we call it become one. That’s the transcendence of law is transcendence. No time, no sound, no even perceptual experience, is there is no observer. There is no observation, there’s only observing. There is no singer, there is no song, there is only the singing. There is no lover, there is no beloved, there’s only the love.”

Tip #6

“Look at all the billionaires in the world in the public eye right now. And ask yourself, when was the last time you saw them smiling? When was the last time you saw them? You know, cracking a joke or having a bit of laughter. I don’t see that in all these multi-billionaires or even the leaders, political leaders in the world. They’re so seriously self-absorbed. upset with themselves. They’ve sacrificed their cell for their selfies, and they’re not happy. So ask yourself every day, what would make me happy? And don’t be certain about the answers. Because if you ask these questions, and you live these questions live, life moves you into the answers, we are under the hypnosis of social conditioning that has basically made everybody miserable right now, the second most common cause of death and teens is suicide. Every 40 seconds somebody in the world is committing suicide, which means like, they don’t even think they deserve to live. How desperate is that? And if that’s a pandemic, globally, then we seriously need to question our culture that is recycled by the media, with social media, with how many likes you get, and soon you don’t know who you are, you think you are your selfie, instead of your real self, you don’t actually know who you are a little bit of reflection is always good. Why do I do what I do? What would make me happy? What do I want? Those questions are very important.”

Tip #7

“Peace is not simply the absence of conflict. But a state of being that is characterized by love, compassion, and understanding. Both external peace and internal peace are essential for a truly peaceful world. They’re entangled. Peace comes from within. And it is not something that can be imposed from the outside. Meditation. And mindful awareness is the process of stilling the mind and allowing your true nature to emerge. Our true nature is peaceful, joyful, peace, presence, carry that presence wherever you go, and you will be peaceful, you will bring peace to others, not by what you do, not by what you say. Not by any action, just by being as peaceful. Being is the source of peace. So let your presence heal the world delivered.”
